Obituary

Vernon G. "Pee Wee" Geiger, age 79, of Columbus, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Monday, May 22, 2017 at "At Home Again" Assisted Living in Columbus.

Visitation will be at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus on Thursday, May 25, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at church on Friday, May 26th at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Steve Kortendick will officiate. Burial will be at St. Jerome Catholic Cemetery in Columbus with military honors to be conducted.

Vern was born the son of Alfred and Verna (Peters) Geiger, Sr. on February 9, 1938 in Columbus. He was a graduate of Columbus High School. Vern was married to Carol Jean Ripp on June 19, 1965 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus. He served his country in the 32nd Div. of the Army National Guard. Vern worked in construction and was a member of the Local 464 Union for over 50 years.

Vern was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Columbus. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Vern was an avid gardener which he generously shared with family and friends. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed playing cards. Vern enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and sporting events. He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor.

He is survived by his devoted wife Carol of Columbus: two children: Connie (Todd) Piekarski of Columbus and Mark (Tammi) Geiger of Muskego; five grandchildren, Andraya and Lexi Piekarski, and Mitchell, Nathan, and Kassidy Geiger; brothers and sisters: Alfred (Ruth) Geiger, Jr. of Columbus, Generose (Kurth) Kast of Randolph, Joan Karow of Fall River, Beatrice (Donald) Dunning of Columbus, and James (Linda) Geiger of Windsor: his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Doyle Heller of Pardeeville, Lois Geiger of Columbus, Jerry Tjugum of Columbus, Marlene Ringelstetter of East Bristol, and Mary Williams (Allen) of Raleigh, NC; and further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Mathias and Grace Ripp; his siblings: Savilla (Walter) Retzlaff, Arlene Heller, Roger Geiger, and Rosemary Tjugum; his brothers-in-law: Kenneth Ripp, Edward Ringlestetter, and David Williams.

Memorials may be made to St. Jerome's Catholic Church or the Columbus Community Hospital.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hillside Hospice for all their care and support over the past few months.
