Laverne Knecht was born to Emma Pruetz Qualmann and Edwin Qualmann on Wildcat Road, Iron Ridge, Wisconsin on March 24, 1918. Laverne died peacefully in her home in Hartford, Wisconsin on March 22, 2017, two days before her 99th birthday.

A memorial service will be held for Laverne at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews Ev. Lutheran Church in Iron Ridge on Saturday, March 25 with Rev. Larry Mose officiating. A visitation will also take place on Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Matthews Ev. Lutheran Church. Inurnment will take place at St. Matthews Cemetery.

Laverne was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Henry Knecht of Iron Ridge who died in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents and by her Brothers Donald Qualmann and Ralph Qualmann and by her sisters Evelyn Qualmann Bonack and Inez Qualmann Krueger.

Laverne is survived by her son John Knecht, his wife Lynn Schwarzer, her two grandchildren Anna Knecht and Benjamin Knecht, of Hubbardsville, New York and by her brother Edwin J. Qualmann and sister in law Diane Wild Qualmann of Iron Ridge. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews: Jean Qualmann Anderson, Daniel Qualmann, John Qualmann, Charles Bonack, Ellen Bonack Highum, David Qualmann, Mary Qualmann Goeman, Jane Qualmann Raether, Gilbert Wiser Jr. of Neosho, Wisconsin and Kerry Kunz of Sacramento, California.

Laverne graduated from Hustisford High School in 1936 and from Dodge County Teachers College in 1938. She taught grades 1-8 at the Fruit Valley School west of Mayville Wisconsin from 1938-1941.

She married Henry Knecht on June 1, 1941. Laverne and Henry owned and operated The Farmers Exchange, grocery store and meat market in Iron Ridge from 1941-1977. In 2007 Laverne moved to Hartford Wisconsin where she lived until her death.

Laverne was a member of the Dodge County Retired Teachers Organization and a member of the Iron Ridge Fire Department Auxiliary.

Laverne was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran church of Iron Ridge.
