Obituary

Helen E. Schultz, age 86, of Juneau passed away peacefully on Friday, February 17, 2017, at her home.

A funeral service for Helen will be held on Wednesday, February 22, at 1 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Juneau, with the Rev. Paul Schupmann officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday, February 22, from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at the Juneau City Cemetery.

Helen was born on August 18, 1930, the daughter of Elmer and Charlotte (Schroeder) Berger in Bay City, MI. She was received as a child of God through Holy Baptism, and her faith was confirmed on April 2, 1944. She attended Trinity Lutheran Elementary School in Bay City, MI, Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, MI, for high school, and then she continued her education at Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN. She was united in marriage to Ferdinand W. Schultz, Jr., on August 11, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran in Bay City, MI. Helen taught in Lutheran elementary schools for over 30 years in Fort Atkinson, Caledonia, MN, and Juneau. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Juneau and was active in the Ladies Aid, Adult Choir, and the altar guild. Helen also taught piano lessons, and she worked part-time at the Juneau Public Library. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed ceramics, reading, and a good puzzle. Helen cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her children- Rev. David (Suzanne) Schultz of Nebraska, Rev. Jonathan (Cheryl) Schultz of Alberta, Canada, teachers Paul (Susan) Schultz of New Mexico, Rebecca (Paul) Bauer of Lake Mills, and Rachel Freiburger of Appleton. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, her sister- Judith (Bruce) Bender of Fond du Lac, and her sister-in-law- Ilene Berger of Waupaca. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ferdinand, son-in-law David Freiburger and brothers- teacher Gerald Berger, Rev. Frederic Berger, and Rev. James Berger.
