Obituary

Garner Gordon Campnell passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Randolph Health Services. Garner was born on April 9, 1938, in Cambria, Wisconsin. He was the youngest son of Delbert and Margaret (Slinger) Campnell. He grew up in South Randolph and graduated in 1956 from Randolph High School. Upon Graduation, he entered the United States Air Force where he served for four years. Garner was fiercely patriotic.

He married Edwina "Eddie" Farrell in 1963. Garner was very active in his children's grade school activities coaching basketball and serving as athletic director at St. Patrick's School. He was a well-known bingo caller for St. Patrick's Athletic Association. He also called bingo for several years for the local American Legion of which he was a member. He served as president of St. Patrick's Parish Council. Being very civic minded, Garner served as alderman for the city of Beaver Dam and chaired several important committees. Garner worked for the city of Beaver Dam and retired from Apache Stainless Steel.

Garner played several sports and participated in local softball. He backed the Badgers, Packers and Brewers. He enjoyed casino games, puzzles, cards, traveling and copper collection. He was a great story teller and enjoyed making others laugh with the great sense of humor he had. He never missed an event that his kids or grandkids were participating in. Those who knew him well called him Mr. "C".

Garner is survived by his two daughters, Colleen (Todd) Whitrock of Cedarburg and Carrie (Joel) Hogan of Omro; four grandchildren, Nathan and Samantha Whitrock and Jacob and Josh Hogan; sisters-in-law, Myrlen of Randolph, Marlene of Florida, Mary Jane of Madison, Sharon (Bill) of Montana, Jenny of Milwaukee; and brothers-in-law, Joe of Milwaukee, Al of Beaver Dam. Special friends and neighbors to the North for over 35 years, Linda Wulff, Roger Plumb, Heidi Wulff-Plumb Graham (Patrick Graham), Cameron and Henry, Kelly Minnig (Nate), Mallory and Mandy, Cory (Lisa) Wulff-Plumb; other relatives and friends. Garner was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edwina; his parents; his son, Joseph; brothers, Del, Jack and George; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerry, Madeline, Tim and J.D.

Garner's family wishes to thank friends and family, as well as pastoral staff, for all the prayers, visits, care and concern during his illness. They express special thanks to SSM Health Dr. Shannon O'Mahar and her staff, Hillside Hospice and Randolph Health Services for the comfort and care.

Memorials may be made to St. Katharine Drexel School or Hillside Hospice, or to a charity of Choice.

The visitation will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. The American Legion is invited to walk through at 5:45 p.m. There will also be a visitation at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic church in Beaver Dam on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50: a.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Mike Erwin officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery in Beaver Dam with military honors provided by the John E. Miller American Legion Post #146.
