Charles Raymond "Ray" Piper, 85, of Horicon, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Horicon. Inurnment will take place at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Benton, Wi at a later date.

Ray was born on May 4, 1932 in New Diggings, Wisconsin the son of Leo and Florence (Field) Piper. On June 15, 1963 Raymond was united in marriage with May Karan Carter at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Benton, Wisconsin. He graduated from UW-Platteville, and went on to teach Social Studies at the Horicon High School for 32 years before retiring in 1995.

Ray served in the US Navy as a Bosun's Mate, he served aboard the U.S.S. Mountrail during the Korean War. Ray loved fishing, watching birds, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Karan Piper; daughter, DeEtta Kellom; sons, Joel (Melinda) Piper, Lucas (Janice) Piper; brother, John (Patti) Piper; 8 grandchildren, Logan James, Megan Clare, Connor Alexander, Jacob Carter, Margaret Grace, Elizabeth Rae (Mitch Weber), Mary Sarah and Matthew Russell. Ray is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Tanya Rae, 6 brothers and 6 sisters.

If desired, memorials may be directed to Hillside Hospice in Beaver Dam.
